United Indian Health Services (UIHS), headquartered in Arcata, California, operates seven Tribal Health Program outpatient clinics with medical, dental, behavioral health, vision and community health & welfare services across Humboldt and Del Norte counties. We employ highly qualified clinical, social service and support staff professionals and are embarking on a nationwide search for a Dental Director.

Serving the Tribal communities for fifty years UIHS continue to grow and take pride in providing very high quality services to our Native American clients. We have been offering comprehensive dental care for Native American communities of northwest California since the 1970s. Think redwood forests, rocky coastlines and a slow paced rural lifestyle. Arcata is also the home of Humboldt State University.

We seek top talent to lead our team of dental professionals and staff in a dynamic progressive environment.

Position: Dental Director
This position involves performing clinical dentistry and supervising a large dental department (6 dentists, 3 dental hygienists, amanagement team and support staff currently operating in two clinics, with plans to open more.) For this reason we’re looking for qualified candidates with at least 10 years clinical dental experience (preferably in Indian Health or community clinic setting) as well as working with administration and budgeting processes.

Responsibilities:
• Ensure all dentists are properly trained, directed and motivated to provide patients high quality services and care;
• Audit and review patient charts and discuss the findings with the treating dentist;
• Supervise and support the dentists with any clinical issue with clear direction;
• Assess and educate dentists on different dental treatment options;
• Provide leadership in the establishment and implementation of dental care delivery mechanisms, strategies, standards and goals;
• Communicate all dental regulations (From payers and Dental board) to providers;
• Delivers supervisor responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws;
• Conduct monthly meetings with clinicians and clinical staff.
• Audit OSHA compliance in the clinics during monthly visits;
• Others as assigned.

Requirements & Skills:
• Educational degrees must be from a U.S. Department of Education accredited dental school;
• Current license to practice dentistry in the State of California;'
• Current California Dental X-ray Certificate;
• Enrolled as a Medi-Cal or other insurance provider;
• Current and valid Controlled Substances Registration Certificate;
• Current and valid CPR Certification or obtain within 6-months of hire and maintain;
• Current and valid driver's license;
• Must be able to be covered by agency's vehicle insurance and provide proof of valid private vehicle coverage;
• Prefer minimum 10-years clinical dental experience; however, minimum 3-years required, preferably in Indian Health or community-based dental care system;
• Outstanding clinician with strong clinical references;
• Excellent verbal and business written communication skills (both for clinicians and non-clinicians);
• Excellent leadership skills to provide strategic planning;
• Ability to handle varying situations efficiently with tact and diplomacy.
